All About Café Ubé
Discover our story and find our about our history, our food, and our name.
Our story
We’ve been serving great food to tourists and islanders since the 1960s.
Born at the former Jersey Pottery in Gorey, our cafés started life as a coffee bar offering refreshments to factory visitors. We quickly became known for our fresh and tasty food, and our Jersey Pottery Cafés expanded into St Helier offering snacks, sandwiches, drinks and our tasty homemade soups to hungry office workers and tourists in the town centre.
Times change, and Jersey Pottery eventually switched focus from making plates, to filling plates with food. The ceramics factory and the original Jersey Pottery Café aren’t around any more, but Jersey Pottery’s sister company – JPRestaurants – now has more than ten outlets around the island. This includes our cafés, as well as Banjo, Oyster Box and Jersey Crab Shack restaurants.
Our name
As the world went digital, we realised we needed a new name. Customers searching for our soup menu online would stumble across the latest pottery range – and so, it was decided that Jersey Pottery Cafés had to change.
We wanted a name that reflects our local heritage, and we chose the name Café Ubé as a tribute to Mont Ubé dolmen in St Clement. Pronounced “ooh-bay”, we think it has a nice ring to it.
Café Ubé Today
We’re all about real food made fresh, not stuff that’s been sitting around for weeks. Every soup, salad, wrap, and snack we make starts with ingredients we actually know and trust, all prepared right here in Jersey, every morning.
Our menu changes up weekly (because variety is the spice of life!), with homemade soups, hot casseroles, and tasty wraps ready to grab and go, so you can spend more time eating and less time queuing.
Got dietary needs? No problem. Everything’s clearly labelled, and our friendly team are always happy to help.
Oh, and all our cafés and delivery kitchens have a shiny 5-Star Eat Safe rating: meaning we keep things clean, safe, and seriously high-quality.
Fresh food. Happy vibes. Made with love in Jersey.
